Swiss Combo adapter from Lenovo

February 6, 2008

lenovo-90w-slim-ac-dc-combo.JPG

Lenovo today announced its new ThinkPad and IdeaPad 90W slim AC/DC combo adapter, the company’s first all-in-one adapter designed to charge other electronic devices such as most cell phones and PDAs; and many mobile music devices (using optional connector tips.) At about a half-inch thick and 33 percent smaller than Lenovo’s previous combo adapter, it’s roughly the size of a deck of playing cards – small enough to easily fit into a shirt pocket.

Traditionally, the power adapter for a notebook PC has been referred to as a “brick;” a weighty, bulky necessity that is inconvenient to travel with. A further inconvenience for business travelers, particularly those who fly a lot and spend time in airport security lines, is the need for multiple adapters for multiple devices. Lenovo’s new ThinkPad and IdeaPad 90W slim AC/DC combo adapter is 25 percent lighter than the company’s previous model, and helps business travelers cut down on the number of devices they must carry.

“The introduction of the Lenovo Combo adapter will help to significantly improve the mobility of our notebook PC customers,” said Bob Galush, vice president of software and peripherals, Lenovo. “We’ve made staying connected easier for the business traveler. Our new adapter allows users to charge current and legacy ThinkPads, IdeaPads, most major PDAs and phones and even two devices at once. It”s the new ‘must have’ for the mobile professional.”

Also available is an optional dual-charging cable allowing more than one device to be charged at the same time and optional power tips which enable users to customize the adapter to whatever devices need to be charged.

Pricing and availability
The ThinkPad and IdeaPad 90W slim AC/DC power adapter is priced at $119.

HP Innovates “Closed Loop” Inkjet Cartridge Recycling Program

January 30, 2008

HP today announced it has developed an engineering breakthrough that enables the use of post-consumer recycled plastics in the production of new Original HP inkjet print cartridges.

More than 200 million cartridges have been manufactured using the process thus far. HP used more than 5 million pounds of recycled plastic in its inkjet cartridges last year, and the company is committed to using twice as much in 2008

HP inkjet cartridges returned through HP’s Planet Partners program undergo a multi-phase recycling process that reduces them to raw materials such as plastics and metals. HP combines plastic from the inkjet cartridges with recycled bottle resin and a suite of compounding additives to ensure all recycled materials meet HP’s high-performance standards.

The amount of recycled content in these HP inkjet cartridges may vary between 70 to 100 percent of the total plastic used, but the reliability results for each product are stringently tested and consistent across the lineup.

And unlike companies that simply remanufacture cartridges, HP has found a way to mold these recycled plastic components into new Original HP inkjet cartridges.

Racing stripes are not included, but consider the new KODAK i780 Scanner a performance tuned vehicle that any business can use to drive mission critical document processes and meet its core demands in real time. Improved accuracy and productivity allows documents to be captured at optimal speed with exceptional image quality and ease of use.

Current business demands, driven by increased information-based processes and a need to meet heightened government regulations, require that critical information be pulled from a wide range of documents and sources. With a set of market leading features, the KODAK i780 Scanner allows its users to aggressively meet the rapidly escalating requirements of production level, intelligent information capture, making it a natural choice for forms processing operations.

“The KODAK i780 Scanner elevates mid-volume production scanning by making it efficient for end users to obtain real, usable data with every scan regardless of a document’s original quality or structure,” said Tony Barbeau, Director of Scanner Business, Document Imaging, Graphic Communications Group, Eastman Kodak Company. “The combination of competitive performance features, including full compatibility with MICROSOFT WINDOWS operating systems 2000 SP4, XP SP2 and VISTA 32-bit, with Kodak’s advanced image processing and paper handling, provides businesses with a precision tool to cut through the clutter.”

Document throughput provides image capture speeds up to 130 pages per minute (ppm) and image resolution up to 300 dots per inch (dpi) at rated speed, in color, grayscale and black-and-white, in dual stream mode and with all advanced features enabled. This performance raises the bar for mid-volume production scanning standards, further enhancing return on investment.

The i780 Scanner provides an array of cutting edge image processing features to deliver outstanding image quality:

Automatic orientation based on document content, saving labor and time required for presorting.

Perfect Page image processing technologies for optimal image quality with readability equal to or better than the original native document.

Auto color detection for automatic color scanning.

Electronic color dropout eliminates the form color and captures only the information needed for processing.

Auto cropping captures only the actual document and straightens every image and page to avoid distorted processing.

Five output options meet virtually all imaging requirements—black-and-white, color or grayscale, plus two dual stream options, color and black and white, or grayscale and black and white.

Versatile paper handling through Kodak’s SurePath technology provides the flexibility to easily scan mixed batches of business documents, photo prints, tear sheets and graphics—from 2½ inches by 2 ½ inches to 12 inches by 34 inches. An ultrasonic multi-feed paper detection system ensure that all documents and their content are captured by recognizing labels, stick-on notes and stuck together documents.

Rounding out image processing and paper handling performance is the i780 Scanner’s compatibility with available KODAK Capture Software, which offers many additional features including OCR and Barcode recognition, more than 40 different output formats, versatile batch scanning solutions, digital signature capabilities, and other useful production features.

The i780 Scanner has a U.S. list price of $39,995 and is available for immediate delivery from Kodak’s channel partners.

The first digital audio devices from the Philips/Rhapsody collaboration are expected in early 2008 and can be previewed beginning January 7 and throughout the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show in the RealNetworks booth (South 4 36200) or in Philips’ booth (Central 12124).
