Fujitsu shows off the biggest collection of mobile broadband notebooks

February 13, 2008

fujitsu-notebooks.JPG

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has been singled out by the GSM Association (GSMA) as having “the best overall response and commitment to mass-market mobile broadband computing”. The accolade is part of the GSMA’s Mobile Broadband Notebook competition designed to identify the best manufacturers and devices to serve the emerging market for mobile broadband. Judges at the GSMA highlighted Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ broad portfolio of 3G+ (HSUPA/HSDPA) embedded notebooks as showing clear “dedication” to high-speed mobile computing.

The award comes as recognition of Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ long-term leadership in bringing mobile broadband to the market since the launch of the world’s first professional notebook with embedded UMTS/HSDPA connectivity in March 2006. Since then it has extended the benefits of seamless connectivity anytime and anywhere, and is now the first IT supplier with a full range – 12 notebook models with embedded broadband with different sizes and flavors to match the needs of all type of users.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers offers a range of notebooks with secure embedded HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity – from entry level through to high-end ultra-portables. HSDPA/HSUPA delivers high-speed broadband access to those on the move. It makes real-time interactive services, such as video conferencing, IP telephony, mobile gaming and the rapid exchange of large email attachments, a reality over wireless networks. A fully-embedded solution means customers do not have to worry about external cards or USB modems or installing and configuring software.  It provides also better communication capability as well as improved battery life over an external modem solution.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers is also completely fit to answer telecommunication operators needs to customize embedded notebooks to their specific needs in order to address this fast growing market.  It has proven its capabilities with many of them already, providing services such as packaging with specific colors and content, configuration of the notebook to be ready to be used out of the box, including SIM card in the packaging if required, etc…

Rob Conway, CEO of the GSMA, said: “Our Mobile Broadband Notebook competition is one of many initiatives designed to help consumers make better-informed choices when purchasing Mobile Broadband notebooks so they can benefit from an improved ‘out-of-the-box’ experience. Our steering committee commended Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ range of embedded HSUPA/HSDPA notebooks for anyone looking to make their first foray into high-speed Mobile Broadband computing.”

Andreas Thimmel, Senior Vice President Volume Business, Fujitsu Siemens Computers said: “Mobility is at the heart of Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ business, accounting for just under a third of our overall revenue. An ongoing commitment to ensure our customers are the first to benefit from the latest technologies has been instrumental to this success. Our range of notebooks with secure built-in HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity now makes it easy for everyone – whatever their needs – to take advantage of high-speed broadband on the move.”

$19.000 Beast from Dell, its a server

Just days after closing its EqualLogic acquisition, Dell today begins worldwide delivery of next-generation iSCSI storage area network (SAN) arrays – the Dell EqualLogic PS5000 Series.

“We are committed to simplifying IT and EqualLogic will help us realize that vision for our customers worldwide,” said Michael Dell, chairman and CEO, Dell. “Together, Dell and EqualLogic will deliver storage and server virtualization solutions that enable customers of any size to build resilient, flexible datacenters.”

Dell EqualLogic PS5000 Series storage arrays share a revolutionary architecture to serve as the backbone of virtual datacenters. This dynamic architecture can deliver advanced storage functionality, simultaneous scaling of performance with capacity and enterprise-class management for one upfront price - eliminating upsells and hidden licensing fees. Using the iSCSI interconnect, the Dell EqualLogic architecture creates a flexible, virtualized environment for dynamic volume creation and movement, thin provisioning, scalability, remote replication, and easy interoperability within any IP-based datacenter.

“Networked storage has been too complex for too long. Dell EqualLogic helps solve that problem,” said Darren Thomas, vice president and general manager. “This is virtualized, consolidated storage that is self-managing, affordable and easy to use, regardless of scale. We’re automating complex tasks, enabling fast and flexible provisioning while seamlessly integrating into the existing IT network. That’s simplifying IT and this is the future of storage.”

Dell EqualLogic PS5000 Series Attributes

  • iSCSI Interconnectivity – utilizes the IP protocol to enable fully virtualized storage arrays and storage networks that work seamlessly in the IP datacenter.
  • Virtualization in the Array – built-in virtualization architecture provides extensive flexibility, intelligent automation of routine processes and on-the-fly performance optimization that responds to application demands.
  • Modular Scalability – each modular storage array is a complete SAN; as arrays are added to a group, storage performance grows linearly, network bandwidth expands and the group continues to behave as one virtual SAN.
  • Advanced Storage Management – built-in enterprise-class storage management capabilities, including remote replication and thin provisioning.
  • Configurable for Capacity/Performance – configure each array for the desired ratio of capacity to performance; create multiple tiers of SAS and SATA-based storage in a single SAN, and optimize each tier for the applications it serves.

System pricing begins at $19,000 (US), but is it worth it?

Is it a bird? Is it a Plane? No its a computer from SONY!
